Newcastle Route
This circular route in the KwaZulu-Natal province passes through the historical towns of Newcastle, Ladysmith, Harrismith and Memel.
The route is mostly gravel roads, but does include very short stretches of tarred road. It includes seven mountain passes and only one is tarred. Due to the length of the route most riders prefer to make this a two day trip starting in Newcastle and then sleeping over in either Ladysmith or Harrismith.
This area includes many historical monuments and battlefields. The Drakensberg mountain range makes for great scenery and photo opportunities.
